Taylor Sell is a ceramic artist based in Long Beach, California, drawn to ancient modes of making — work that honors touch, material, and the intelligence of the hand in an increasingly technological world.

She has been working with clay since high school, returning to it seriously in 2020. She spent six weeks studying in Puebla, Mexico, where she learned pre-Columbian coiling techniques, pit firing, and natural clay fermentation — practices she now weaves into a contemporary studio practice.

She has always been a collector: of art, of objects, of the work of other makers — things that carry memory and meaning. Her ceramics practice grows from the same instinct, a belief that the things we surround ourselves with should feel alive and intentional.

Time spent outdoors, wandering, and quite literally playing in the dirt grounds her work in a deep sense of curiosity and presence. Each piece is shaped by the moment it was made in — and cannot be made again.
